Get Involved

Netball Umpiring is a fantastic sport for people of all ages and levels of experience. Get fit, have fun, and build confidence and communication skills that extend far beyond the netball court. Umpiring is a great way to be involved in the game, whether its for a love of netball or to support your friends and children. We are always looking to grow our umpire community and welcome newcomers with open arms!

Information covered below:

  • Do you want to umpire?
  • Become an affiliated umpire
  • Auckland Netball Umpire Comititee
  • Umpire Support and Coaching
  • Umpire Pathways  & Assessments

Auckland Netball uses a pool of affiliated umpires to service the umpire requests schools make (primary and intermediate) and also requires allocated umpires for Secondary School Premier, and Club Premier and Senior games.

We would love to see as many people interested in Umpiring be part of this as possible. We will be requiring that you be at an apporiate level for the games you are umpiring as people are paying the umpire for this and we want to make it the best experience we can for all involved.

Not qualified yet? No problem – check out our upcoming classes and workshops HERE.

Just getting started? All pool umpires will be required to have attended our Become an Umpire programme (or some such equivilent) at the minimum and you would be required to be afliated each year with Auckland Netball. This is to help us keep a good database and continue to develop umpires.

Have a umpire qualification already? Those wanting to do higher level games (Club Senior/Premier and Secondary School Premier) will also need to be afflilated in order to gain priority in allocations appropriate to their level of qualification, plus access umpire group communications about competitions and tournaments, Zone and NNZ pathways, and further development opportunities.

Umpires contribute greatly towards the successful competitions at Auckland Netball and we are lucky to have a number of long-standing and experienced umpires as part of our netball community. We thank these umpires for their actions out on court, and in supporting the developing umpires coming up from the levels below.

Auckland Netball has always had a great group of people from the comunity that have put their hand up to help support, coach and allocate umpires across our competitions and within our community.

The comititee is made up volunteers that work together to complete many tasks including allocating umpires to games, supporting umpires with coaching and assessments, sideline support, communication to umpires, and helping to create a positive and friendly umpire community culture.

We NEED this support in order to keep our competitions running smoothly and help develop our aspiring umpires.

We are looking to invite any volunteers  interested, no matter what your experience to please complete the Expression of Interest form.

There are a number of roles on the committee and you do not nessasairly need to be the "best" umpire or have years of experience in umpiring for all role. See below for an overview of the comititee structure and descriptions of the roles.

We welcome anyone interested, no matter what your experience to apply - we may be able to offer some development for you in the umpire support/coaching space as well.

Any queries please contact our Josina at

Umpire Committee Expressions of Interest

Every year Auckland Netball has many young aspiring umpires learning to umpire and needing support on game days. Often they are young kids who have done our Become an Umpire day course, have put their name down to be an allocated Auckland Netball Umpire but are still getting the confidence to calling it in real time during the game.

Support/Coaching is usually roaming around the courts encouraging young umpires who may be struggling to blow the whistle loud and strong, answer any of their questuions at breaks and managing any potential tough sideline situations.

We are looking to invite any volunteers interested, no matter what your experience to please complete the Expression of Interest form.

You do not have to be an expert umpire yourself - just know the basics and we can offer some development for you in the umpire support/coaching space as well.

If you have higher levels of Umpire Coaching experince and are interested please contact Josina Vader at
