We are pleased to announce the completion of a $580,000 LED lighting project for our indoor and outdoor courts.
The project began in December 2023 and was due to be completed by February 2024. Unfortunately, installation of the lights was delayed due to several logistical challenges – the lights were shipped to New Zealand from Italy and had to be rerouted via Singapore due to the Red Sea shipping crisis. We are thrilled that everyone in the Auckland Netball community can now benefit from the new LED lighting.
The change to LED lighting aligns with our existing commitment to sustainability. The new lights are considerably more eco-friendly, and we are targeting a reduction of our energy bill by up to 40%.
Our indoor courts are used most days for a range of netball activities, from Year 1&2 Junior Netball, to PowerPlay, Walking Netball, the Shakespeare Orthodontics Secondary School Premier Competition, and Barfoot & Thompson Premier Club Competition. The brand-new indoor LED court lights also enable us to host televised matches at Auckland Netball Centre, and it was a pleasure to host Stars Netball vs AVIS Magic for an exciting ANZ Premiership game earlier this week, broadcast live on Sky Sports. We look forward to hosting more televised matches in the future.
We are extremely grateful to Auckland Council for their contribution of $250,000 towards the project, with the balance made up by the following funders along with a contribution from Auckland Netball: Foundation North, Lion Foundation, NZCT, Grassroots Trust, Mt Wellington Licensing Trust, Four Winds, TAB and Trillian Trust.
Auckland Netball extends our thanks to Hewlett Electrical Lighting Solutions, Intelligent Environments, and Solas Group, with a special thank you to Project Manager Suresh Nagaiya from DMP.
