COACH DEVELOPMENT

​​​​​​​We encourage and support our coaches with a range of coach development opportunities at Auckland Netball, from Junior Netball, right through to the Representative Level. We work with Netball NZ and Netball Northern to provide courses and resources which enable coaches to develop, whether it’s to support your child’s team or your own personal interest in netball. Information

The Community Coach Award Level 1 (CCA1) has been designed by Netball New Zealand to provide coaches with the necessary skills to provide quality coaching with athletes from 12 years and over.

The CCA1 modules will help coaches to gain confidence in the technical aspects of coaching, coach in a Player-Centred approach, focus on skill development, and nurture a love of netball in their playing group.

To gain your NNZ Community Coach Award Level 1 you must complete all the required modules and you will be guided through the process of how to do this by the Auckland Netball team. 

The full CCA1 qualification, a nationally recognised qualification for netball coaches, can be completed by attending all of the CCA1 modules.

Information

Community Coach Award Level 2 caters for the coach who wishes to gain more in-depth knowledge to support their coaching at the CCA 1 level.

Attaining CCA Level 2 is also one of the
​​​​​​​pre-requisites for the Performance Coach Qualification (PCQ).

Level 2 Modules focus on the tactical aspects of the game and there are also formal observations of coaching practice required at this level.

Coach Development session: ‘Starting with the end in mind’

This practical session with Leigh Gibbs will support a coach to look at the varying considerations when implementing a
​​​​​​​Game-based coaching approach. 
Overall, the session aims to:

  • Identify strategies and build confidence when observing play,
  • Explore coaching pedagogy and concepts related to Game-based delivery,
  • Support a coach to reflect upon game like activities and the value in enhancing game performance,
  • Offer opportunities for the sharing of knowledge and information,

About Leigh Gibbs
Leigh Gibbs is NNZ’s Community Coaching Manager, recognised for her impact as both a player and coach. A tenacious wing defence, she played 61 tests for the Silver Ferns from the late 1970s to the 1980s, earning a reputation for sharp game sense, relentless work rate, and strong leadership. After her playing career, she moved into coaching, serving in both head and assistant national roles and contributing significantly to coach development across Netball New Zealand. Widely respected for strengthening the game’s technical, tactical, and cultural foundations, Gibbs remains an influential figure in netball nationally and internationally.
